Carbonite Back Up Service...Cool Carbonite Improvements...I knew the price was reasonable. It's under $60 per year per laptop. That's a lot better than the mega dollars to use their competitor. I fell out with their competitor when last Fall they hit my card for an unbelievable figure without my permission. I had switched to monthly billing when I decided to back up my photos also. That file is huge. So, when they hit the account for a huge fee after everything was presumably arranged the "they did not mean to hit your account for $800 they'll reimburse in a week "was not an experience I wanted to unexpectedly repeat. So, I switched to Carbonite. There was paid tech phone service. I have three laptops I back up. I figured worry about that when I had to worry. The other support was wonderful. I just could not continue with them not knowing if they would repeat an error that big.
Carbonite Back Up Service...Cool Carbonite Improvements...So the day of reckoning came. I had a BIG computer malfunction on Easter Evening. I lost my user profile. Deleted. Yep, corrupt became worse when the tech rep did not have me make a copy of the registry and I hit delete by mistake. Nothing much worse than the black screen. So now the petal to the metal question. Did Carbonite work? In the middle of a Spring Season with almost no data access did it work? Step one I called Microsoft about the deleted user profile.$60 later and 12 hours later, they helped me build a new user profile. Great tech rep there. She did not give up on me that day. But day two was a different disaster. Lots of programs like Agent Office and Quickbooks worked but lots like Palm and Outlook did not. Again, I lost my user profile so this makes sense. The wonderful tech rep, Sheila, at RE/MAX 100 can usually figure out anything, but she had to point me to Carbonite. Stomach pains. No voice support and my second choice anyway.
Carbonite Back Up Service...Cool Carbonite Improvements...Well what a surprise. They now have phone support that is excellent. The rep has Outlook pst files reloading thru the night. I got Verizon Tech support on the phone and they are always outstanding. They stayed on the phone with me and got me to Palm. Once the Carbonite folks load the user names back on my hard drive, then tha Palm folks will import them and even the conduit for Agent Office should still work. It has been since Easter with no ability to sych my database or access any of my emails. And the phone keeps Spring Sales ringing.
The moral of the story? Get Carbonite for $60/year per laptop. Great phone support, great price, and now...here's the kicker...YOU CAN ACCESS ALL YOUR FILES REMOTELY at another location and download them. The cool Carbonite rep, Andrew, showed me how. Is this the bomb or what?
The next moral of the story? When you lose your persoanlized settings and you are one step away from no data, just cash in on the Carbonite investment and they will guide you to clean up the disaster. Oh, and reduce the clutter on your desktop. Use shortucts only and keep the stuff to a minimum.
Next moral, deal with companies with good service. It pays off when you most need it. Back to Spring Sales!
