I just got my First Featured Active Rain Post at my one year AR Blogging Anniversary!This goes to show you the power of persistence. I was at Va Tech getting a Business Degree many moons ago. I was struggling with Chem Lab and near the end of the class, the Professor walked up to me out of the blue. Now this is a big deal at a large University. I figured he had NEVER noticed me. He said, and I never forgot it , that " No matter what you do in life, you will be successful because you never give up." I was floored. He actually noticed I had done those experiments over and over until I finally got them to work right. It kind of sounds like my cooking but that is another story. Good thing for yogurt and fresh fruit and vegetables. And Bless the crock pot. But anyway...I got a B in Chem Lab and it was blood, sweat and tears for this Hokie to get there.
I just got my First Featured Active Rain Post at my one year AR Blogging Anniversary!On July 11 last year, my two lucky numbers, I saw a post via Real Bird by Janie Coffey. I asked Gabe Gross to connect me. I had no idea what I was looking at, but I wanted it all and I wanted everything on her page which was an Active Rain blog post. Over the past year, we have become social networking pals and idea swap on lots of work issues. So, to accomplish this, I decided to give up my day off, Sundays, until I got it. Never in a million years, a trillion years, did I think it would take a year of Sundays. I just wanted to get my blog on. I wanted to "Feel the Fear and do it Anyway" like the title of the book. I wanted to do videos and clip art and hyper local posts and slide shows and the list goes on.
Mostly, I started to learn a lot of tech stuff which fascinates me. Then I got to befriend a few AR bloggers. Then I reached out and asked for help when I needed it to improve my skills. The Featured Post was elusive to me, though. Martha Brown had said she observed the Featured Posts and then honed her skills that way. The other day, out of the blue, I wrote a post a slightly different way and BINGO, for my one year anniversary gift on Active Rain, it just got Featured. Yahoo.
My next goal is to get better at hyper local posts.I admire Renee Burroughs and Art and Karen Kruschka's stuff but truthfully have not looked at much else. Their posts stopped me in my tracks so the Golden Results version will be a hybrid Shack Kruschka event. My BIG HUGE MONSTER goal is to start getting referrals and business. I have been blindly faithful to AR Blogging about Southern Maryland and realize it will improve as my blogging skill level improves.
