Verizon iPhone arrived and was set up TODAY, but Mobile Me....
My iPHONE hit the RE/MAX 100 building in Dunkirk MD just after lunch, so Riley Rover and I took a ride with it to the Verizon Store. I had read in one of the iPhone for Dummies books that pre order Verizon customers would be doing the unlocking themselves rather than getting in store help. I decided to go and get Verizon assistance.
Good thing. My old Palm Treo was so old that there was no contact synch up/ back up program. They had to use an infrared Verizon device to bring over my contacts. Only unknown glitch at the time was that only half of the contacts came over and I did not realize this until later this evening.
I am glad I went to the store first because I got a tough plastic coating to protect the front and back iPhone screen. I also learned about the contacts transfer gadget they have in the store. They unlocked my new iPhone by going to a generic iTunes account. They showed me how to text, reply to a text, make and receive calls, and navigate. My goal was to be operational on the iPhone when I left and my rep, Gerry Rolfe, got me up and running. Neither of us realized that half the contacts were missing. I was the first customer to walk in and get all this help so the staff was peeking over our shoulders watching us get the new iPHONE working. We even set up Google Voice as a Favorite line so I can still receive all calls transcribed plus check the Voice mails on the Google Voice Message Line. Oh, and if you cannot hear when you receive your first call, pull off the plastic coating that blocks the sound...BLUSH.
When I got home, I got on line with Apple and they helped me bring over my apps from iTunes. I had already set up Mobile Me at Christmas. I am on a VERY long chat session holding for Mobile Me right now. They will help me get all my laptops and iPAD and iPHONE all integrated so as a Realtor I only have to enter a contact one time one place and all my gadgets and computers have the same information at once. Presto! Yep, you got it. Just one time contact entry and the info is everywhere.
Now, if the chat line for Mobile Me would just work. I had a fit with the website access to even get to the chat line wait. Now they are too busy to come on line at 11PM EST??? I do not like the fact I cannot talk to someone. Mobile Me is an awesome concept. It is enough to make me go buy a Mac next. But the tech help chat line idea is a big let down after everything else that has gone relatively smoothly.
I also learned that Mobile Me is already on your computer if you have iTUNES installed. Go to Control Panel to find it.
This Mobile Me chat requirement is the only snafoo on the iphone set up today. I have half my contacts entered which means on Tuesday so long as your name does not start with an N thru Z , we are aok. I will take my stuff back to Verizon tomorrow and get my N thru Z folks uploaded.
Oh, check your Z clients if you use the contact transfer gadget at Verizon before you leave the store. Also, if you already have Mobile Me set up, don't use the Verizon gadget at all or duplication errors will arise which explains my persitence with the 11PM chat line wait.
Am I happy about my iphone? You bet. One day into it and I think I am operational on it thanks to my Verizon rep, Gerry Rolfe, and the Apple tech supprt line.
Uh oh, I just learned Mobile Me does not support 64 bit. Rats. Life in the Tech Fast Lane!
