I got really lucky today. And the thing is I know it.
Actually, I have been lucky lately. I had a deer dart right in front of my Jeep a couple of months back. I swerved, the deer swerved, and all was aok. Then a lady bumped in to me in the McDonalds Drive thru. Same thing, not a nick. Then a lady backed in to me, or rolled in to me with quite a THUD, at a stop light. Again, not a nick. Then a few days back there was a big windstorm and again a big THUD. Frankly, I was afraid to look. I got up and sure enough, a HUGE tree had fallen behind my garage. It was like perfect TREE Ballet. It fell absolutely in a perfect path to avoid my garage, the other trees, or anything but the clear and safe and perfect path.
But the thing that makes me most humble is what happened today. It was a perfect Spring Day in Southern Maryland. That means Riley Rover was out on his big rope so he could roam the porch and prance about.
But, unknown to me, he got loose. My boy has Neurological problems. If I had to explain it in simple terms, he has navigation and spatial challenges. I am not sure he could find his way home. I kind of doubt it. He actually pulled out of his collar so he had no ID.
I had no clue. I went out to get in the Jeep to head to Prince Frederick. I glanced up to look at him as I was leaving and no Riley Rover.
Panic City.
Then I looked on the hill and there he was all perky and pretty wanting to go for the Jeep Ride with me. I had hosed him down earlier in the day and boy he was a handsome Golden Retriever.
So, no collar and no duress and with definite contained hysteria, I let him hop in the Jeep with me.
Like I said, I have been very lucky lately. But today was the luckiest day of all. And guess who got extra chicken chews afterward? My boy is at my feet and I am really grateful today.
