Maryland Crab Recipe for DareDevils...Ramblings of a Southern Maryland Realtor on the Run...I don't think I have had crabs off the stove since I was a kid. Every summer there was a day or maybe two when you could smell the red tide when you woke up. That meant it was a crab war day. All the crabs rose to the surface and you could pick them off the top of the bay. It was the BIG day of the summer each summer. The excitement was explosive. Everyone had nonstop crabs for days.
Maryland Crab Recipe for DareDevils...Ramblings of a Southern Maryland Realtor on the Run,,,But okay, I'm prissy. I am not going to cook crabs. I think crabs and I think Abner's. They do a great job in the Town of Chesapeake Beach and are friendly and pleasant to boot. But this year on a lark, my family got crabs at Mel's, a roadside vendor, and cooked them like when we were kids. I think my brother said he used one can of beer, two cups of vinegar, and two cups of water for 30 minutes. Plus, Mel's' supplied the spices. I am telling you, it is worth the drive to Southern Maryland to find this vendor in his truck at the end of Ponds Wood Road to check this out. I am talking YUMBO. It is on our agenda to do this next Father's Day, too. Yahoo. In the meantime, I am an Abner's Crabs kind of Gal. But once in a while, when the daredevil surfaces, this is a neat treat if you are able to not be squeamish. As in crabs were dropped on the kitchen floor and were crawling about. Good thing Riley Rover was not there.
