Mother's Day Memories and Musings from a Southern Maryland Realtor on the Run! My one Grandmother was like Martha Stewart before there was a Martha Stewart. She was a Country Doctor's Wife who raised a family while my Grandfather was in the war. She loved him to the moon and back. She was under five feet tall and a spitfire. She had a great laugh and was a wonderful Grandmother. I wanted to be just like her...right down to the "Gone With the Wind" Tara home she had built in Ritchie, MD. She could cook up and sew up a storm. She was really cool.

She was raised in Kentucky and her own Mom died when she was very young so she had to take over with helping raise her family while she was still a child. She bought her own home in D.C. before women did such a thing. It was back when she was charged a higher interest rate because she was a single woman. She was a self employed Geneologist and also a Government worker. She raised my Mom alone. There was quite a bond between them. They used to talk every day like I do know with my Mom now whenever I take my lunch break. My D.C. Grandmother was headstrong, determined, hardworking, and a real survivor and trailblazer.

I am really glad I had the influence of my D.C. Grandmother because my life took a different, unexpected path. It takes a village or it takes a WHOLE family to give you the guidance and role models to help throughout your life.

I wonder who started her on this habit? I hear they have half priced Fraps at certain hours this coming week so she will get double the Mother's Day Gift. Anyway, hope you enjoyed your Mother's Day and gave thanks to your Grandmother's too. I sent ecards to a lot of my friends who are great Mom's. I called a few great Moms. But I know I have the best Mom of all. And I hope you know that about your Mom, too.
