Don't ask me what I was thinking. Sometimes the Simple Realtor Paperwork Systems Should Stay! Today, eight plus hours later, I undid the NEW filing System I experimented with last year. I did not shed one tear. I would say I was crabby, mean, unlikable, and a lot of other GGGRRR things today, as Riley Rover would say, while I did this but sad, no. Paperwork is not my passion.
I have always had a simple system. One hanging folder in the file cabinet per client. Seven colored file folders inside each hanging folder. Each color stands for something to me. Purple I love so it is the most recent file docs after contract ratification and it is always on top. Yellow is happy so it is second and it is the ratified contract. Lavender is lighter than purple but looks good against yellow so it is the offer folder. Green is for listings because listings are $$$$$. Then there is blue. I am not much of a blue person so I put junk and trash in it. Pink is for faxed items and misc. Then I toss some plain folders in the back.
The day of settlement I clean out the folder. Then it gets scanned.
Very simple, very easy, and when I open the file cabinet I can dump things in each file without staples, holes, glue or much thought at all.
Don't ask what I was thinking but I tried a white notebook system. I had white notebooks everywhere, unfiled stuff everywhere, and one big mess.
Never again.
It's back to my tried and true simple filing system. The notebooks look pretty but create one big backlog and one big pile of stuff ...oh, don't get me started.
It was not broken who knows what I was trying to fix. Eight hours later, it's time to go throw Riley Rover some sticks.
