What are the Harvey-isms I learned from my first Broker Owner? They go on and on. They play like tapes in my head and I am grateful for them. When I joined RE/MAX Country Properties twenty five years ago straight off the Levitz Furniture Sales Floor, I was lucky enough to have Harvey Gates and his partner, Carol, take me under their wings.
When Sylvia recently returned home after being with them, we started to reminice about Harvey, who passed away recently, and chuckle and giggle about all the things he had taught us. Just a few days ago, my Dad did the same thing. And a few days before that, our attorney friend commented about how when Harvey was around, everyone did well. Anyway, Harvey's scripts, for those of you who did not have the gift of being trained by him, are:
1. The person with the gold rules.
2. Loose lips sink ships.
3. If you have an inpsection done, that same exact inspector comes back to reinspect. Period. Noone else.
4. Don't be in such a hurry to put out the fire that you forget to turn the hose on.
5. The purpose of the phone call is to get the appointment.
He was dead honest. He was a hard worker. He was no nonsense. And he had the greatest laugh. And boy, could he get mad at me. But I really, really liked him. And the Harvey-isms I learned from my first Broker Owner will stay wiht me all my life.
I am smiling as I write this. I can hear him so clearly. I'm so glad I can pass the Harvey-isms along to you, too. Rest in peace Harvey Gates. Carol, you two were great to us! Thank you very, very much. Your Scotty, Katie, is with Harvey I am very sure.
