There are Angels Among Us...Never Underestimate the Kindness of Strangers. Boy did I live this one tonight.
I went to Annapolis MD today. My Birthday is tomorrow and I wanted to get some groceries at Sam's Club, Office Supplies at Staples, iPhone Accessories at Verizon or Best Buy and a little of this and that which when translated means a perfunctory Starbucks stop for a nonfat Cafe Latte and a Panera stop for a large Iced Tea. I heard one woman say she wished she had an IV drip for Starbucks coffee. I understood her wavelength.
Anyway, after mission accomplished I was headed back home and Riley had to take care of business. On the spot. That meant stop at the new Edgewater Giant Food and go to the fringes where construction was still incomplete. So we climbed back in the Jeep and UH OH. Pitch dark, in the middle of nowhere, with a Jeep full of groceries and office supplies and one Golden Retriever ready to head home, my Jeep door would not close. No way no how. Mind you, this is a big problem when it is 20 some degrees, dark, past close of business and in the middle of nowhere.
There are times like this when it pays to be a Realtor. Problem Solving 101 each and every day. Well, I could envision driving home to Calvert County with Riley Rover's rope tied around the whole body of the Jeep to keep the door closed. I could see me holding it with all my strength for the 30 minute ride home. I ran through a list of my family and friends and all I could think of was who was out of town , who was on appointments, and no way was I going to abandon my Jeep with dog, groceries, NEW iPAD and NEW iPHONE intact. No way was the Gal going to abandon ship, Jeep, or DOG.
So I drove at a snails pace about 5 minutes to a nearby, well lit WAWA and got out and tried and tried to close my Jeep door. It all goes to show you what you do not know. I had the door hinge welded and repaired a few days earlier. Obviously, something had gone wrong and it was off track. Of course that was clear. Yeah, right. So after a few minutes of franticly trying to close my door in front a WAWA, the man next to me came over and offered to help.
He explained that the latch, not the hinge, was causing the problem. Of course I knew I was right and he was wrong. I had the $357 repair bill entry fresh in Quickbooks. But sometimes you just have to get out of your own way and LISTEN.
Then a Biker behind me asked if he could come help. He had had an old car that used to do the same thing and he could fix it. Did I have a screwdriver? No, plenty of strawberries, mangoes, office supplies, and one loving life Golden Retriever, but no screwdrivers.
Anyway, within minutes the Biker had it fixed. He said "anything to help a fellow Calvert County Resident."
Let me tell you I was off the charts STRESSED. Within minutes and I mean minutes my Angels appeared. Never underestimate the kindness of strangers. I was very blessed this cold winter night. Riley Rover, however, thought it was all great FUN.
It's usually me solving mold, termite, water, home inspection, settlement, financing and you name it kind of problems. I think my middle name is YELLOW PAGES. It was really sweet to have the help I needed this time when I REALLY, really, R E A L L Y needed it. Here's a BIG thanks to my Southern Maryland Angels!
Oh...Screwdriver anyone? It's on my next shopping list!
