Why is Memorial Day Weekend my FAVORITE Weekend of the Year...Ramblings of a Southern Maryland Realtor... In the small Southern Maryland town where I live, as you enter the town, right in front of you is the Veterans Park with waterfalls and a huge crisp looking American Flag waving proudly with a backdrop of the Chesapeake Bay. Patriotism and gratitude are the welcome wagons for this Chesapeake Beach MD Southern Maryland town every day of the year. So why is Memorial Day Weekend my FAVORITE Weekend of the Year?
I like the sunlight as it hits the Chesapeake Bay. Not too hot, not too cool. I like the excitement of summer around the corner. I like the smells of the Bay on a Spring Day. I like hearing the boats. I like the smell of grills fired up. I like a welcome break after a busy Spring Real Estate Season. I like the rituals. I like the sight of wet towels and flip flops on the beach. I like Spring fruits and snacks outdoors. I like a good book ( did I say Nook?) waiting to be opened. I like time with family and friends. I like extra romp time with Riley Rover. I like all the things that Veterans have protected for each of us. My Grandmother and Mother made sure I was a member of the DAR. That soldier was at Valley Forge. My Great Uncle died in the war. I remember my Grandmother mentioned him fondly over the years. Another Great Uncle was in the war and had a dream that he would be reunited with my Great Aunt. Sure enough, they were. They both passed away within twenty four hours of one another at the end of their lives. It was a neat love story. My Grandfather was a Doctor in the war. I have a mug he brought home with him above the kitchen sink. It used to be on his mantel in his study. I look at it every day.
Thanks to my relatives and your relatives and our service men and women today for giving me my favorite weekend of the year.
